It’s been bugging me that some person went onto the iTunes page for our new album and left a crappy review because he/she didn’t like us at the AC/DC show. Now this is some funny shit!  In case you didn’t know, when I’m not rockin’ out with megaphone, I pay bills as a freelance lighting director.  In that line of work, there’s really no better way to make the big bucks than to work in the corporate market, lighting everything from dinner parties to big corporate general sessions.  So here I am working a show for Lockheed Martin, with a production company that I’ve never worked for before, next to a sound engineer that I just met.  In our conversation, of course I mention that I play guitar in an unsigned band (I’m not afraid of some shameless self promotion!) called megaphone.  He says, “If you’re a guitar player, you might find this funny” and opens up his laptop to show me this picture. We officially announced the title of the next megaphone album on WJRR’s Native Noise a couple weeks ago. In case you missed it, it’s going to be called “EXIT SILENT MODE.” We tossed around a few ideas for a while but finally settled on this for a few reasons…but that’s another blog post. I’m about to rant a little.  Please consider yourself warned that this blog is about to get a little negative, and I’m sorry for that.  The thing is, this really needs to be said, and i think by saying it before April 9th (the date of our next battle of the bands), I may be able to avoid looking either like a pretentious prick, or a sore loser, so here we go. It’s been a while since we had any news about the album so a lot of you have probably been wondering what’s up. Basically, we’ve been done with tracking for a couple of weeks now and we’re just trying to get it mixed. There have been some conflicts, both with scheduling and finances. We’re at the point of looking under couch cushions for loose change, but that’s because making an amazing rock album is not cheap! Trust me, when you hear it, you will understand why. This album is going to rock your socks off and the wait will be well worth it.

The mixing is scheduled to begin on April 6th with Pete Thornton (no, not the guy from MacGyver). He’s worked with the likes of Paramore, Between the Trees, Shinedown, etc. so we’re extremely excited to be working with him. He’s already mixed “Gravitate” which can be found on the Rock Pink Myspace and it sounds badass. So anyways, that’s where we’re at right now. Hopefully we’ll have more updates soon! (In case you were wondering, no, that picture is not related to the album artwork. I just made it and thought it was cute…)

Rock Pink for the Cure second annual benefit show was announced live on Real Radio’s monsters in the morning show! megaphone, winners of 2008 Rock Pink battle of the bands, will open for Lita Ford at Club Firestone on Saturday May 30th. Tickets go on sale this Friday March 13th through ticketmaster and rockpink.com.

Around 5 pm Monday March 9th the results finally were posted and unfortunately megaphone did not make the top 4 in WJRR’s central florida’s best band contests. Even so, all of us in the band are proud to have made it to the top 8. We were excited and humbled to see so many friends and fans not only voting but also campaigning on our behalf for votes. There are a lot of great bands here and a lot of motivated bands so for us to have made it as far as we did is a pretty big deal. Thank you all who voted, we really do appreciate your support.

megaphone will perform an 80 min show at Daytona International Speedway for the Daytona Supercross by Honda event this Saturday March 7th at 5:15 pm! Supercross is professional dirt bike motorcycle racing at it’s best! This event is part of Daytona bike week. We’ll be performing between the qualifying session and the first heat.
