I actually thought about that as I was writing it. Yes, people who are "friends" with the band on MySpace will still be friends with them. I was talking about fans of the band that don't necessarily have a MySpace account.

At least you get the point. Thanks for the comment!

u said "Now all of their fans who have that page bookmarked will have to search for them again to find their new URL"

the band is NOT LOSING friends because of a changed url.
they will still be able to reach fans thru comments, bulletins, etc. they can just tell people that way.

newsflash: most people have thousands of bands on their list & dont even go to the page anyway. any band that doesnt have a mailing list & relies on myspace 100% is stupid :)

This is such important information for musicians! All those contacts you amass can be gone instantly. A band has to have control over their mailing list. Two great resources for bands on marketing:
Ariel Hyatt's
http://www.arielpublicity.com/

Chris Penn and John Wall's

It has been very cool to see megaphone embrace social media full force! As a fan I really love the blog and tweets and utterz. Can't wait for the new CD!! The Christmas song rocks!! If you haven't gotten the new EP The Perfect Gift at iTunes - rush out now and get it!
