You guys would not believe how many people at my school try to play guitar. It sounds like a bunch of random fret mashing, calling it metal. They dont take time to learn the blues scale at least, or penatonics, so when I heard them solo, it sounds terrible.
I on the other hand, take lessons and I'm learning about that stuff. Hopefully, I might form a band someday and rawk Clermont/Orlando.

But one can only dream.

I think a point to also get across here is that we HUGELY appreciate the people that do vote for us in these things. We've won a lot of contests because of the people who believe in us and that means a lot.

The contests are stupid, but the bands who participate and people who vote for them are not. Just wanted to throw that out there :)

Tell us how you really feel, Paul ;)

In all seriousness, kudos to you for saying what we've all been thinking. I'll still vote on any website, go to any show, and support megaphone in any competition to show my support and help you win whatever lame contest in which you happen to be competing that day, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. And knowing you feel the same way (okay, I may have had a clue before this blog post, but still) helps me as a megaFAN to reconcile the internal conflict of HATING the nonsense but LOVING the band.

See you all Thursday night.

Well...we all know people from WJRR. My old crew...who shall remain nameless, competed in all of these competitions...Zippo, EDBD...Orlando's whatever band. We've actually received the most votes, played the best tunes...and still...because we were who we were and we didn't kiss ass or anything, we got shafted. It's all politics, man...pick up a guitar and you might as well run for office. What ever happened to the rock? It doesn't matter...

You guys rock...you know you rock. It's everyone else who has their head so far up their own ass...

This is exactly why I think 'megaphone' is a true band for the masses.

They are not trying to impress other guitar players on how fast they can play, or how technical a drummer is or how high a vocalist can sing a note or how scale oriented a bass player is.

'megaphone' is about the music, the show, the people.

'megaphone' takes things in a different direction.

Example:
The magazines your can buy in book stores for musicians are about buying the 'gear' to sound better...
Why aren't there any magazines on how to write a better song?
You can have a 10,000 dollar guitar and not be able to write a good song on it. Useless.

'megaphone' is about writing a good song. You can play those songs on any instrument. They play Rawk-n-Roll on electric guitars that sound awesome. But they can also play their songs on acoustic guitars and still sound awesome.
If you can't play your song on another instrument and have it sound like a good song... find a day job.

There is a lot of talent out there. People should find the things in life that they enjoy and support it.
Whether it is 'megaphone' or 'knitting'

I'm glad you wrote this, because I was going to but was afraid that I might piss someone off.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: If a magazine/radio station/podcast/knitting show LOVES our band and wants us to be a part of their huge event, then by all means, ask us and we will be there. These contests are nothing but schemes to either promote a sponsor or get email addresses.

And I would really love to see a HUGE write-up on wjrr.com about this contest. Where's the love?! I don't even know who else is playing that night!
